TEN-YEAR-OLD Martina Audrey Uyboco will be performing in “Martina Plays Mozart” at Claude’s Le Cafe de Ville on Friday, October 28, at 6:30 p.m.
The event is organized by restaurant owners Claude and Tess Le Neindre to celebrate United Nations Day. Proceeds of the evening will benefit low income families of the Tuburan Institute – a Steiner-Waldorf community school in Tugbok, Davao City.
This will be Martina’s sixth public concert and the second time she will be performing at Claude’s. Her first recital was in 2014 at the Yamaha School of Music in Makati City. This was followed by her first performance at Claude’s in 2015.
In January of this year, she had 3 performances in Manila — at Yamaha again, then at Manila Pianos, and then before an audience of music majors at the Philippine Women’s University (PWU).
Martina, or “Drei” as she is fondly called, is a fourth-grade pupil at the Davao Christian High School. She began playing the piano at the age of five.
When she turned six, she came under the tutelage of Professor Russell Brandon, a Scottish musicologist and concert pianist residing in Davao.
Professor Brandon quickly recognized Drei’s talent as she breezed through her basic lessons, so he began giving her more difficult and challenging classical pieces.
For this concert, she will be playing both solo and duet pieces composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Professor Brandon will be performing alongside her for the duet pieces.
The menu for the night features Assietiette Gourmande composed of French Oysters, Baked Mussells and Curly Chicken Liver Mousse, Mushroom Veloute Soup, Baked Goat Cheese Salad, Australian Tenderloin of Beef dished in Thin Croissant Dough, and topped off with Fresh Strawberries a la Romanoff.
